Project details

The West Gate Bridge contains a High Voltage network that spans the entire bridge from the Eastern side of the Yarra to the western side. The High Voltage network supplies all the critical Electrical systems such as the Overhead lane signals, light and power, and ITS equipment. The c2o Group conducts yearly High Voltage Maintenance and HV switching operations to ensure that this nationally critical is maintained

Vicroads needed to replace the kiosks on the Westgate Bridge. The new kiosks had some compatibility issues with the existing cabling. The new kiosks required elbow terminations, which the existing paper lead cable couldn’t support. The existing cabling was also not long enough. Replacing the cabling would have been a considerable expense. Vicroads turned to RANS Electrical because we have the expertise to assist with these kinds of infrastructure projects.

After performing an assessment, we determined that we could expose existing feeder cables and connect new 3 core XLPE cabling via inline joints. This allowed us to perform elbow terminations inside the switch gear which meant the kiosks could use the existing feeder cable without the need to replace them.
