Project Details

The project is Australia’s largest energy transmission project involving the construction of 900km of new transmission lines across multiple states and voltages up to 500kV. Upon completion, the new transmission lines will improve reliability and security of electricity supply across the states and enabling the energy transition allowing future connections from renewable energy sources.

Key Features

  • Major OHTL construction has been dormant for over 30 years in Australia resulting in a limited supply of qualified transmission lineworkers.
  • The energy transition globally has generated unprecedented investment in transmission network infrastructure in Australia and globally resulting in a major skills shortage.
  • COVID related execution delays, rises in prices for raw materials, labour and logistics.
  • There was no Enterprise Agreement for OHTL construction in the state.

Project Scope

  • Construction of approx. 22km of 220kV overhead transmission line.
  • Construction of approx. 510km of 33kV overhead transmission line.
  • Construction of approx. 176km of 500kV overhead transmission line.
  • Extensions to existing substations to accommodate the new transmission lines.
